Welcome to Lego Feelings – a creative, systematic, process-driven intervention designed to explore emotions and navigate social situations, especially beneficial for children who struggle to express how they feel but have a deep affinity for Lego.
Our training sessions look into the research supporting Lego Feelings and explore how these building bricks can unlock emotions and facilitate communication.
Lego’s tactile nature and versatility provide children with a non-verbal medium to express complex feelings that words often fail to capture. This aspect makes it particularly effective for children who find verbal expression challenging but excel in hands-on activities.
Additionally, in the training we’ll examine the neuroscience underpinning Lego play and its therapeutic advantages. Engaging in Lego activities stimulates multiple areas of the brain involved in creativity, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. For children who struggle with emotional expression, this multi-sensory approach helps them process and communicate their feelings in a safe and supportive environment.
Furthermore, we will explore the metaphorical storytelling potential of Lego under the guidance of trauma-informed facilitators. Using Lego as a storytelling tool allows children to create narratives that symbolically represent their emotions and experiences. This method encourages imagination, enhances emotional insight, and fosters resilience by empowering children to explore and make sense of their inner world through play.
By integrating these strategies, Lego Feelings not only supports emotional development but also promotes social skills such as collaboration, empathy, and communication. It provides a structured yet flexible framework that meets the diverse needs of children who may struggle with traditional talk-based therapies.
Why not look at how this type of intervention can be used in your setting to expand the provision of social and emotional well-being.
