Why We Created KidZone
Every child deserves a voice.
Children don’t always communicate with words. Sometimes they need a different way to show us what is happening inside.
KidZone was built – to give a child another way to show what they cannot say, and to give the adult sitting beside them something useful to do with it.

When talking feels too difficult
Some children can’t find the words. Others don’t yet know what they’re feeling. These tools give children another way to express thoughts, feelings and experiences without the pressure of having to explain.
Creativity becomes communication

Every child communicates differently
No single activity works for every child. Some children build. Some draw. Some tell stories. Some create imaginary worlds. KidZone and the Studio offer a range of interactive tools so every child can find a way that feels right for them.
Different children. Different voices

Helping adults hear what children show us
Every tool is built on the BOUNCE Approach®, recognising that behaviour is communication. KidZone is the child’s side, free to anyone. The Studio is the adult’s side, where each tool comes with a guide on how to introduce it and what to ask. Neither is about interpreting what a child makes – both are about curiosity, connection and understanding.
Every child deserves to be heard

Listening to the
Body’s First Language.
Before children can talk about emotions, they often notice them in their body. The Body Map helps children explore sensations, energy and physical experiences, building interoception and creating another way to communicate what may be difficult to put into words.

Understanding Regulation
Before Behaviour.
Children don’t just feel emotions – they experience changes in their nervous system. The Energy Thermometer helps children recognise their level of energy and notice what their body needs, supporting self-awareness before behaviour escalates.

The Kindness
That Usually Goes Unseen.
Most kindness between children happens quietly and disappears. This fun group activity gives them somewhere to record what they noticed in each other, building a shared record of how this group treats one another rather than a list of who did best.

The Things They Believe
About Themselves.
Some beliefs a child holds about themselves are so settled they no longer sound like beliefs. Belief Buddy opens them up gently – what they think is true about them, and where that idea originally came from.

Creating Safety
From the Inside Out.
Safety looks different for every child. This creative tool helps children build a place that feels calm, predictable and comforting, encouraging reflection on the people, places and experiences that help them feel regulated and secure.

Discovering What
Genuinely Helps.
There is no universal strategy that works for every child. The Reset Toolbox helps children build a personalised collection of regulation strategies, encouraging curiosity about what supports their own nervous system.

Not Instructions.
Something to Follow.
“Take a deep breath” asks a child to manage their own body at the moment it is hardest. Breathe sets the rhythm to a beat instead, giving them something to move with rather than something to remember.

What Builds
Before the Eruption.
Anger is usually the only part anyone sees. My Volcano works backwards from it – what was already there, what added to it, what came just before – so a child can show the pressure that built underneath, not only the moment it came out.

When Stories Become
Another Way to Communicate.
Children often express experiences more freely through symbols, play and imagination than through direct conversation. Sand Stories provides a creative space where thoughts, feelings and experiences can be explored without pressure to find the right words.

Making Invisible
Conversations Visible.
Social situations can be confusing when thoughts, feelings and perspectives remain hidden. Comic Creator helps children slow situations down, explore different viewpoints and make sense of interactions through simple visual storytelling.

Regulation Through
Rhythm and Movement.
Music can support regulation, emotional expression and connection without relying on words. Whether listening, moving or creating, music offers children another pathway to calm, engagement and wellbeing.

Not What They Can Do.
Who They Are.
My Superpowers is built on character strengths – kindness, courage, curiosity, fairness, humour – rather than what a child is good at. Children who find things hard hear about the difficulty far more often than the strength, and this gives them language for the qualities they carry, not the things they achieve.

Facing Something New
With What They Already Have.
Change feels smaller once it has a shape. My Bridge helps a child picture where they are now, what they are heading towards and what sits in the gap between – then look back at the times they have crossed something difficult before. The focus is not on the size of the change but on the people, strengths and strategies they can take with them.

When School Feels Impossible,
Ask What Would Help.
A child who cannot engage is rarely refusing – something in the day is getting in the way, and they often cannot explain what. Designing their ideal school turns that into something they can show rather than say: the noise, the corridors, the unpredictability, the moments that tip it. What comes back is a map of the barriers, and pupil voice you can act on.

Something to Do
When Words Are Too Much.
Colour and Music pairs a library of regulating music tracks with mandalas and a colour palette to fill. The repetition of colouring and the steady rhythm of the music work together, giving a child something absorbing to do with their hands while their body settles. A mindful way to connect with how they feel when they need to regulate but do not want to talk.

More Than Happy,
Sad or Angry.
Most children have only a handful of words for a very wide range of feelings, so everything uncomfortable comes out as angry or fine. The Emotion Wheel starts from a broad feeling and works inwards to a more precise one – frustrated, left out, embarrassed, worried. Naming it accurately is what makes it manageable, and a child who can name it is far better placed to ask for what they need.

Their World,
Laid Out in Front of You.
A child builds an island and fills it with the people, places and things that make up their life – who lives close by, who is across the water, what they spend their days doing, where they go when they need a break. Asked directly, most children say not much. Given an island to build, they show you what their world is actually like from the inside.

Kindness With
a Shape They Can Hold.
Kindness is easy to talk about and hard to picture. Warm Fuzzies gives it a shape a child can hold – a small creature that appears when someone is kind – and then hands them the whole village: who gives one, who keeps one, who is glowing and who is not. Nothing is scored and nothing happens automatically, so a child can try out giving, receiving, holding on and being left out, and decide for themselves what each of those means.

Setting It Down
Without Explaining It.
When something is on a child’s mind, it can feel too big to hold and too hard to say. The Worry Machine lets children put it onto a card and then choose what happens to it, building agency and externalisation, and offering a playful way to set something down without being asked to explain it.
