What it is
A short set of questions about what school is like for a child. A calm, low-pressure way for the child to say it, so the adults around them can listen, wonder together and plan support with the child. Use it with one child, or with a group or class.
- Not a test, a score or a judgement of any teacher
- The child can skip any question and stop at any time
- Nothing adds up to a score: answers stay as the child gave them
- Ask again later and put the two sets side by side
- For parents, carers and anyone working with children in school
Three things to hold onto
The answers belong to the child.
Write them down as given. Don’t correct, explain away or argue with an answer.
A change is information, not a result.
Answers move for many reasons. Wonder about a change with the child before deciding what it means.
Safety comes first.
Some questions may bring up something that needs acting on today. The guide shows you which ones, and what to do.
