Being Neurodivergent Affirming
A practical shift from fixing to understanding — exploring neurodivergence as natural human diversity and what genuinely affirming support looks like in practice.
Most children who struggle aren’t the problem — the system around them is. This training invites a fundamental shift in how we see neurodivergence: not as a deficit to be corrected, but as a natural and important part of human diversity that our schools, services, and systems have simply not been designed to support well enough.
Drawing on the Social Model of Disability, lived experience, and current SEND-informed thinking, this training moves from fixing to understanding, from labelling to listening, and from compliance to genuine inclusion. You’ll explore the origins of neurodivergence as a concept, the difference between medical and social models of support, the power of language on identity and belonging, and what genuinely strengths-based practice looks like.
Suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, therapists, and family support workers — anyone working with or alongside neurodivergent children and young people. No prior knowledge required.
Three bonus resources to deepen your practice.
A structured snapshot to identify where a child may be struggling on the inside while appearing fine on the outside — so you can see beneath the surface and respond to what is actually there.
Track entry to exit progress and evidence what has changed across the review period — giving you a clear picture of impact over time.
Understand the nervous system foundations behind regulation, emotional expression, and connection — so you can apply them with confidence in your sessions.
