Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale

A LEGO-inspired adaptation of one of the most widely respected self-esteem measurement tools — made accessible for neurodivergent children and those who find abstract emotional concepts difficult to process.

The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale is a robust, widely used tool for measuring global self-esteem in children and young people. This adapted version uses LEGO-inspired visual prompts and structured, concrete language to make the same rigorous framework accessible to children who benefit from clear, predictable tools — including those who are neurodivergent or find abstract emotional concepts difficult. Ten carefully worded self-esteem statements with a clear scoring system give you a reliable, evidence-informed starting point for conversations, referrals, or tailored support.

Scores typically fall between 15 and 25, with a score below 15 indicating that self-esteem may warrant further exploration. This is an informational signal, not a diagnosis — but it gives you something concrete to act on and return to as support progresses.

The pack includes the 4-page LEGO-Style Scale with scoring guide, a Rosenberg Progress Tracker in Excel to record baseline, mid-point, and final scores over time, and a 4-page Introduction Guide covering ethical use, score interpretation, and next steps. Designed for school counsellors, ELSAs, SENCOs, educational psychologists, therapists, and pastoral leads working with children aged 7–16.

Objectives

What This Resource Helps You Achieve

Four clear aims — grounded in best practice and designed to support structured, measurable wellbeing work with children and young people.

1

Identify strengths and concerns

Use the scale’s 10 statements and scoring guide to gain a clear picture of a child’s overall self-esteem — identifying areas of confidence as well as areas that may need support.

2

Track change over time

Record baseline, mid-point, and final scores using the included Excel progress tracker — building a clear, evidence-based picture of how a child’s self-esteem shifts throughout your work together.

3

Measure intervention impact

Demonstrate the measurable difference your support is making — giving you robust, repeatable data to share with families, schools, and wider professional networks.

4

Open structured conversations

Use the child’s responses as a gentle, structured entry point into conversations about confidence, self-belief, and identity — without the child needing to find the words unprompted.

Pack Information

What’s Included

Three components designed to work together — from initial assessment through to tracking the impact of your support.

1

LEGO-Style Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale

An adapted version of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale presented with LEGO-inspired visual prompts. Uses 10 structured statements with a simple scoring guide to establish whether a child’s self-esteem is within the typical range (15–25) or may be an area for further exploration (below 15). 4 pages, A4 PDF.

2

Rosenberg Progress Tracker

An editable Excel tracker for recording and comparing scores at three key points — baseline, mid-point, and final. Enables you to monitor the impact of your support over time and present clear, evidence-based progress data to families, schools, and wider professional networks. Digital, editable on desktop or tablet.

3

Introduction Guide

A clear practitioner guide covering how to introduce the tool to a child, how to interpret scores, and guidance on next steps when scores indicate concern. Practitioner-facing — not for direct use with children. 4 pages, A4 PDF.

4

Printing tip

Print at 100% scale on standard A4 — do not select “fit to page.” Colour printing is recommended to preserve the LEGO-inspired visual prompts, though the scale works in greyscale. Laminating individual score sheets allows for repeated use with dry-wipe markers.
