Creating a Neuroprofile

A structured four-activity process that builds genuine self-understanding — with the child, not about them — creating a personalised profile and shared language between the child and every adult who supports them.

When a child repeatedly struggles, they begin to build a story about themselves. “I’m not good at this.” “Something must be wrong with me.” Over time, that story shapes how they show up everywhere. The Neuroprofile interrupts it — shifting the question from “what’s wrong with this child?” to “how does this child experience the world, and what do they need to access what they’re already capable of?”

Rooted in The BOUNCE Approach® and grounded in neurodivergent-affirming, regulation-first thinking, this is a strengths-first, shame-free process designed to be completed with the child at the centre. The result is a personalised profile that makes the child’s experience visible — and gives every adult around them a consistent, compassionate framework for support.

Designed for SENCOs, learning mentors, pastoral leads, school counsellors, play therapists, family support workers, and teaching assistants — and equally well suited to parents and carers at home. No specialist background required, just a willingness to sit alongside the child with curiosity rather than expectation.

Objectives

Learning Objectives

What this resource helps children and young people build:

1

Recognise and name their natural strengths

Children explore how they naturally think, feel, and engage with the world — building a positive, affirming foundation before anything challenging is introduced. Strengths Cards cover Connection, Emotional, Creative, Pattern and Logic, Expression, Focus and Interest, Action and Movement, and Thinking and Processing.

2

Understand what feels tricky — and why

Executive function challenges are explored gently and without blame. Children learn that difficulty is linked to context, energy, and support — not ability — and that when something feels hard, it usually means something is missing, not something is wrong.

3

Identify what helps them feel safe, settled, and ready

Children identify the conditions their brain and body need in order to feel regulated and ready to engage — across body, people, place, learning, feelings, and choices. These are not preferences; they are needs.

4

Build a personalised, living Neuroprofile

Everything comes together into a clear, usable profile — created in the child’s own words and format. It can be shared with the adults who support them, revisited as they grow, and used to create consistency across home, school, and transitions over time.
