Being Trauma Informed
Led by Dr Claire Stubbs — explore how trauma shapes a child’s brain, body, and relationships, and how adults can respond in ways that support healing rather than increase fear.
Trauma changes how children experience safety, connection, and the world around them. It shapes behaviour, emotional responses, trust, avoidance, shutdown, and reactivity — often in ways that look like defiance or difficulty to the adults around them. This training shifts the question from “What’s wrong with this child?” to “What has happened, what do they need, and how can we respond safely?”
You’ll explore how trauma affects the developing brain and nervous system, how children may present after adversity, and what they need from safe adults — including regulation, predictability, presence, and trust. The training also covers how consistency, empathy, and relational safety support recovery in everyday interactions over time.
Designed for teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, therapists, family support workers, and pastoral staff. Includes guidance on adult self-care, boundaries, and emotional steadiness — because supporting children who have experienced trauma asks something of the adults around them too.
