Comic Strip Interventions
Learn how visual storytelling through comic strips helps children explore emotions, understand social interactions, and develop the perspective-taking skills that support conflict repair and behavioural change.
When a child can’t find the words, a drawing can say everything. Comic strip interventions use simple visual storytelling to help children access and communicate their internal experience — thoughts, emotions, and social interactions — in a way that feels safe, low-demand, and genuinely child-led. Particularly effective for conflict resolution and perspective-taking, this approach gives children a voice even when verbal expression is difficult or impossible.
This training explores how to structure comic strip conversations as a practical SEMH intervention, covering how to uncover a child’s internal world through drawing, support empathy and perspective-taking, de-escalate conflict, and identify and shift unhelpful behavioural patterns over time. Inspired by visual approaches including Carol Gray’s Comic Strip Conversations™ and adapted specifically for school-based and SEMH settings. Suitable for therapists, school counsellors, learning mentors, SEN
