Things to Know

Description

Welcome to the Pupil Voice

Sometimes it can be difficult to understand why a child is struggling at school, for onlookers – it might take the form of:

  • Social masking (freeze/fawn response to stress),
  • Increased behaviours that are challenging (fight response to stress), and/or
  • Reduced attendance (flight response to stress).

So, let’s give these children a voice in understanding their own needs, using a platform that adults can understand. A tool to un-pick the ‘why’ behind the anxiety a child is facing within the setting.

This checklist, pulls together social and emotional question statements from the OFSTED Inspection Framework and trauma informed practices.

It should be used, without guidance or judgement. Completed by the family and school – so that a balanced, accurate view can be seen.

Once completed, a plan – agreed by the child and family, should be developed – based on the results. This a solution focused approach. We have to work together in putting the needs of the child first.
