Welcome to the BOUNCE Curriculum
BOUNCE helps children manage their emotions by understanding their brain and nervous system. It is a universal embodied provision for children struggling with dysregulation, laying the foundation upon which other targeted interventions can build.
Our comprehensive curriculum structured around three core components:
- Brain: Focuses on understanding and nurturing the emotional brain, utilising Dan Siegel’s hand model to simplify neuroscience concepts for children.
- Body: This module employs a polyvagal-informed approach to help children grasp their own capacity for emotional regulation, incorporating concepts like the window of tolerance and neuroception.
- Tools: Provides practical strategies derived from the Brain and Nervous System modules, equipping children with evidence-based tools to effectively manage their emotions.
How is it Delivered?
The BOUNCE curriculum is structured into bite-sized modules, each ranging from 25 minutes to 1 hour, designed to sequentially build upon one another. Beginning with the exploration of the brain, followed by the nervous system, and concluding with evidence-based strategies for integrating the curriculum into daily practice, these modules provide a comprehensive framework for enhancing emotional health.
Each stage delves into the neuroscience underpinning these concepts, ensuring that facilitators gain a robust understanding of how to effectively embed this ethos within children or their settings. This approach not only equips facilitators with confidence in applying these principles but also empowers them to support children in developing essential emotional regulation skills for navigating everyday challenges.
What are the Modules?
The modules are within our Members Portal, they are in grouped and in recommended Training Order. Simply, go through each sequentially, watch the bite-sized training and download the core concepts, key vocabulary, and activity recommendations.
Does it include Resources?
Whenever feasible, we’ve transitioned from using worksheets to provide an embodied curriculum emphasising creativity and practical application in daily life. Our approach recognises that the brain learns best through experiential learning rather than just worksheets. However, we do incorporate relevant BOUNCE resources, such as the Scale or Window of Tolerance, where appropriate. If the activity needs a printed resource – it’s there.
Why is it Effective?
One of the key advantages of this approach lies in its focus on helping children understand their own ‘window of tolerance’ and equipping them with resources and tools to stay within this optimal zone, while also expanding it. Unlike blanket frameworks that children must conform to, this approach is tailored to honour each child’s uniqueness.
It empowers children to gain self-awareness and insight into how their internal states and external environments, as well as their relationships, influence their emotions. By understanding their ‘unique self’ children learn strategies to manage their emotional responses effectively and regain equilibrium when faced with challenges. This individualised approach instils confidence, as children recognise their innate capacity to navigate various situations and regulate their emotions proactively.
Another significant benefit of our curriculum is its ongoing relevance and currency. As new research papers introduce effective tools for emotional regulation, we promptly develop and upload corresponding modules to ensure our content remains up-to-date.
