Welcome to Scribble ‘n’ Squish

Welcome to Scribble ‘n’ Squish, an innovative IFS-Informed intervention training session designed for professionals seeking creative tools to assist emotionally dysregulated children. This unique session integrates artistic expression, Play-Doh, music, and movement through the lens of the Polyvagal Theory, specifically focusing on our BOUNCE model.

Scribble ‘n’ Squish offers participants a comprehensive approach to understanding and addressing the emotional needs of children by utilising multiple modalities that foster self-expression, emotional regulation, and building internal capacity to widen their window of tolerance. This training will equip you with a step-by-step practical approach that allows children to process their emotions through a combination of creative activities.

Key Components of the Training

  • Artistic Expression: Participants will learn how to use scribbling and drawing as a non-verbal outlet for emotional release, allowing children to explore and express their feelings in a safe space.
  • Modelling Techniques: Engage children in tactile experiences that encourage them to shape their emotions physically, enhancing their ability to process feelings.
  • Music Integration: Discover how to incorporate music as a backdrop for activities, facilitating emotional connection and movement that resonates with children’s rhythms and experiences.
  • Movement Through the Polyvagal Lens: Explore how movement can help regulate the nervous system, promoting feelings of safety and connection. Learn practical techniques that help children ground themselves and re-engage when emotions become overwhelming.
  • The BOUNCE Model: Understand the core principles of the BOUNCE model, which focuses on widening the window of tolerance and meeting the child where they are at. This model emphasises the importance of being aware of emotional states and using creative outlets to bounce back from dysregulation.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the Scribble ‘n’ Squish training, participants will:

  • Gain insight into the emotional landscape of dysregulated children and how creative tools can facilitate regulation.
  • Master techniques for integrating art, Play-doh, music, and movement into therapeutic practices.
