The Demand Avoidance Pack
- To identify and name emotions on a scale
- To identify solutions to problems that arise through demands
- To be able to prioritize demands to feel in control
- To identify strategies for grounding, soothing and coping
This pack has been created for children that struggle with the anxiety caused by indirect and direct demands. It has been based on the outstanding techniques and strategies used specialist education settings in Sussex. It is especially successful for children with a PDA Profile (Pathological Demand Avoidance).
It provides an opportunity for the child to voice the ‘why’ behind their avoidance to a situation and thereby an opportunity for the adult to adapt the environment based on this, to remove this trigger and allow the child to feel safe.
