Description

What is the autism & anxiety support service?

Many autistic children experience anxiety. It can affect a person psychologically and physically.  This constant anxiety is extremely distressing for autistic people. It can lead to meltdowns, self-harm, and depression.

The Autism & Anxiety Support Service is focused on identifying the triggers to the distress – to put steps in place with the child, family and school, to reduce them.

The Service becomes the child’s ‘best friend’ – someone who understands them, without judgement.  Supporting them through their journey away from anxiety.

WHAT DO SESSIONS LOOK LIKE?

As with any therapeutic approach, it is tailored to the needs of the child.  The difference between these sessions and others – is that they are specifically for autistic children.  Supporting the child and family to explore fears, difficulties and hopes. A problem solving approach – to help the child understand themselves and the world around them.

The Service can also be used, if the child is struggling at school.  Whereby, working alongside the school, family, and child – to look at effective ways to reduce anxieties and help the child access an education.
