What are coaching sessions for anxiety & stress?
Coaching sessions that are focused on anxiety and stress, are aimed at clients who are unable to talk about their feelings – either because they don’t want to, it’s too overwhelming, or because they don’t have the skills (yet) to understand them. They are run by Tracy, a very experienced neuro-diverse/typical holistic coach, who works on a bottom-up approach of releasing unprocessed emotions, that are held in the body.
Tracy applies a body-to-mind approach to help the client let go of unprocessed negative emotions and regulate their internal nervous system. She is a trained practitioner in Wingwave Coaching (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping), the Bounce Approach (Polyvagal Theory), Bilateral Integration Techniques, Drawing & Talking, Art-based Approaches, Mindfulness, Meditation, and Neutral Space Relaxation (Bodywork Relaxation). Using these techniques and approaches in many of her sessions.
Not only do the clients feel empowered by releasing repressed emotional overwhelm – they are also given access to bespoke videos, so that they can use these techniques anytime they need to.
What approaches are used in sessions?
There are a combination of approaches used in sessions – all are body-based and focused on the development of independence in resolving own emotional needs, they include:
- What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing?
The lateral eye movements, used in the session reduces activation of the amygdala (emotional part of the brain) and related circuitries – which reduces the amplitude of the anxiety and stress. This helps the client to feel calmer and restores balance in their internal system. This works really well with bilateral integration techniques – which are shown in the session and can be applied independently, as and when needed.
- What is Emotional Freedom Technique?
Tapping is similar to acupuncture, but without the needles! We lightly tap on certain points on the face and upper body, to relieve tension and stress. This technique is really effective, as the child can apply it anytime they need to.
- What is the Bounce Approach?
It is really important, that throughout the process – all clients are aware of the science behind the techniques. All approaches used are scientifically proven to be effective and clients need to understand why. This is why we explore the Bounce Approach – which is in effect Tracy’s adaptation of the Polyvagal Theory, a neuroscientific and psychological link between the vagus nerve and emotional regulation (Stephen Porges).
- Drawing, Talking and Art-based Approaches
The subconscious mind is a wonderful thing and can hold lots of emotional energy – which is why Drawing & Talking, and/or art-based approaches are really effective in tapping into that subconscious part. Enabling the child to process emotional experiences in a healthy way – another powerful technique that is taught to the child, so that they can apply it independently, anytime.
- Body-based Relaxation Techniques
For clients that don’t want to talk about their emotions, body-based relaxation techniques such as Neutral Space Relaxation, mindfulness, breathing techniques and meditations are extremely effective. These approaches would be incorporated into the sessions, alongside links to private videos – so that clients can use them time and time again.
